Hi, girls!

I guess most of you think hair is the symbol of beauty and femininity. Do you know your hair has far more traits and properties? One can say: ‘Show me your hair, I will tell you who you are’. The condition of the whole body is defined by the hair. Analysing DNA in hair allows for catching a thief easily. Read on to discover hair curiosities!

Hair – basic info

Hair is made up of proteins containing sulfur and comprising keratin. Analysing the chemistry of hair shows other elements found in hair: carbon, oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen. Hair structure allows for determining medicine we take and food we eat. However, it’s impossible to identify the sex because hair structure is the same in women and men.

How quickly does hair grow? We have 100.000 hair bulbs. Each one produces 20-30 new hairs that undergo three phases: anagen, catagen and telogen. Hair grows around a half an inch per month. Do you know it grows most quickly between the age of 15-30?

Why does hair fall out?

We lose about 100 hairs every day. Old hair gives place to new, strong and healthy hair. What happens when you lose more? The causes include a diet poor in vitamins, some medication, diseases, improper hair care, air pollution, pregnancy, menopause. Remember that trimming hair ends neither boosts growth nor makes hair fall out faster.

Does a scalp massage inhibit hair loss? There’s no clear evidence yet the massage itself is very pleasurable. It makes you relaxed, increases blood flow and reduces stress level. When blood circulates more quickly, more nutrients reach hair bulbs. Consequently, hair becomes stronger, healthier and more beautiful.

Graying and alopecia areata

Hair grays when peroxide gathers inside. Sadly, we don’t know when the process is going to start. It largely depends on our genes, susceptibility to stress and the level of minerals and vitamins. Obviously, we can hide gray hair using hair dyes, shampoos and other coloring and conditioning products.

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease. It can be connected with strumitis, albinism, diabetes, mental disorders or improper function of nervous system. Hair loss is sudden and affects the whole scalp or some parts. Believe it or not, only 50% of alopecia areata patients have a chance of a partial hair regrowth.
