A face toner… I get the feeling that women no longer remember about using it. This word is slowly becoming an archaism. Certainly, the majority of people believes that since they are using an innovative, sensational micellar water, which successfully replaces it all: a face washing gel, and makeup remover and a toner, it does not make sense to “duplicate” this effect and reach for a separate face toner. Hm. If you think so, then you couldn’t have been more wrong. In today’s post, I will explain why I cannot do without a toner and why it is one of the most important cosmetics in my bathroom. I am here to defend the archaic cosmetic.
How does a face toner work?
A face toner is a water-based cosmetic which we use to wipe the face after cleansing and makeup removal.
Its job is extremely important for proper skin functioning because it restores its natural balance and proper pH level. Keep in mind that the face’s hydro-lipid balance is disturbed after every use of a face washing gel. Therefore, every day after face cleansing, your skin is not soothed and not calmed and it begins to rebel. It becomes dry, easily irritated and starts secreting excessive amounts of sebum. In this case, a toner is the best remedy. It works like a soothing, nourishing “cosmetic band-aid” for the skin. Not only does it properly acidify, soothe and restore the balance, but also removes the residue of sebum, toxins or makeup. It prevents skin irritations, smoothes it, and at the same time provides additional moisturizing ingredients.
A face toner – advantages

Well, what do you think? I hope I managed to convince you that a face toner is an indispensable element of skin care. Remember that micellar water on its own is not enough to thoroughly cleanse the face, some people use it in a hurry and do not make the makeup remover carefully enough. As a result, they do not get rid of all debris from the face – then, a toner is a very good solution because it removes what you did not manage to wash off with micelles.
It is also perfect after other at-home beautifying treatments, such as after using an exfoliating scrub or a face mask. It allows the skin to return to a good form, it acidifies it properly and … the toner is like a full stop at the end of every sentence.
Of course – if you decide to use a face toner – you should choose it consciously. What does it mean?
How to choose the best face toner?
The truth is that it does not have to be an expensive and prestigious high-end product. The most important thing is to make it as natural as possible and to make sure it has a good composition. The cosmetic is supposed to be an ally of the skin, so it cannot dry, irritate it or not work in accordance with its pH).
A toner should not contain dry alcohols, silicones or harmful synthetics that may additionally irritate the skin. Good face toners are ones that contain plant extracts, natural oils, and vitamins.
Herbal infusion – the best homemade face toner DIY
Of course, if you want to have a natural toner, you can do it yourself. How? It’s very easy: just prepare a herbal infusion (chamomile infusion, green tea, horsetail or nettle). Herbal toners can be supplemented with a bit of lemon juice, which brightens the skin and gives it the right reaction. The toner with laurel leaf is ideal for oily skin – all you need is to pour boiling water over it and leave it to brew for a few hours. Strain the infusion from the leaves and pour into the bottle. Another good idea is to use… physiological saline. You can wash your face with it to restore the proper pH. Another great toner is made of the infusion of parsley: chop a handful of fresh parsley pour cool, boiled water and let it stand in the fridge for about 12 hours. Add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, drain and pour all content into the bottle. You can keep the toner in the fridge for up to 10 days. Parsley has a moisturizing effect, brightens the skin and has anti-wrinkle properties, and at the same time, it is very delicate for the skin. In turn, apple cider vinegar perfectly acidifies the skin, taking care of its appropriate pH.
