My favourite hair removal method: recipes for sugar paste

The sugar paste is definitely my favourite method of hair removal. I make it myself at home and then keep it in the fridge. It is extremely easy to do as we need only sugar, lemon and water. How to prepare sugar paste and who should try it? How to do it with and without water? Here’s my recipe.

Sugar paste – for whom?

Hair removal for most women is usually a very unpleasant experience – even if it doesn’t hurt, it often results in irritations, folliculitis, ingrown hair or itching (or all at the same time!). If you’re not very fond of using a razor or a depilator, and hair removal creams and wax sensitise you, it’s time to try sugar waxing! This method originated in Middle East and that’s why it’s often referred to as Arabic depilation.

Sugar paste for allergy sufferers and vegans

Sugar paste is a great solution for allergy sufferers who cannot use creams, shaving foams and wax due to their strong chemical composition. It consists only of sugar, water and lemon juice, so it’s suitable also for vegans. Obviously, you don’t have to suffer from allergy or be vegan to use the paste – everyone will appreciate its natural composition (it is devoid of any chemical and fragrance substances and preservatives) and easy preparation.

How to prepare sugar paste?

The sugar paste is very easy to prepare, but this process requires patience. It can be used both cold and warm. The beginnings can be difficult, but do not get discouraged – you will eventually get the best sugar paste by trial and error.

Sugar paste with water – recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of sugar,
  • 1/4 glass of water,
  • 1/4 cup of lemon juice.

Pour the water into the pot, when it boils, add lemon juice and sugar. Mix until sugar dissolves. Cook over low heat making sure the paste does not stick to the pot (pots with a thick bottom should facilitate it) for about 35-45 minutes. Stir it from time to time. When the paste turns golden in colour and acquires tasky consistency, it is ready. Then transfer it to a cool bowl. When I want use the sugar paste, I take some amount of wax, knead a couple of minutes and then apply it to the skin. This method helps to remove even the shortests hairs. When the paste hardens, I put the bowl in hot water and wait until it’s ready to use.

Sugar paste without water – recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 of the sugar bag,
  • juice of 2 lemons,
  • glycerine.

Pour juice into a pot with sugar and cook over low heat until it turns brown. Leave it to cool and add a teaspoon of glycerine (from a pharmacy). I transfer to a bowl and store in a fridge. Before next depilation, I put the bowl in hot water until the mass regains its consistency. Such paste should be used as wax.

Have you ever tried sugar paste to remove your hair? If so, were you happy with the results? Do you know any other recipes for sugar paste?
